Performance profile of the House and its Secretariat


New initiatives


The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has been providing computers to Members of Rajya Sabha and is upgrading and facilitating the computerization activities for Members.  The Secretariat has been developing and implementing softwares/databases, in coordination with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), to facilitate and provide various services to Members. The Computer Cell while implementing various decisions of the Committee on Provision of Computers to Members of Rajya Sabha, Computerisation Coordination Committee and the Computer Procurement Committee of the Secretariat, purchased 33 desktop computers, 42 laptop computers, 73 multifunction printers, 30 UPS and 75 pen drives for Members of Rajya Sabha as per their options, and 121 desktop computers, 26 printers, 97 UPS, 2 scanners and 17 units of RAM for the Secretariat during the year 2006. 

With a view to providing a single vendor Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) service both for the Members and the Secretariat, the Secretariat entered into an agreement for a single vendor AMC with M/s CMS Computers Ltd.  

In pursuance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Project on Digitization of Debates of Rajya Sabha since 1952 and publishing them on CD/DVD and Internet, the Secretariat finalized the Tender document for the Digitization Project for further action by the NIC. 

The Secretariat has also prepared a comprehensive Information Technology Plan for Rajya Sabha for the period from 2007 to 2009, which will ensure that further growth and expansion of computerization in the Secretariat is both systematic and focused.
