PANDIT GOVIND BALLABH PANT

PANDIT GOVIND BALLABH PANT

At the entrance Hall to the Lok Sabha Outer Lobby is placed the 9-feet high bronze statue of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, a distinguished freedom fighter, an able administrator, an orator non pareil, a staunch nationalist and an outstanding parliamentarian.  He played a very significant role in the Indian National Congress for more than three decades and was an untiring participant in both the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement.  He was a member of the United Provinces Legislative Council and the Prime Minister of the State.  He was also a member of the Central Legislative Assembly and the Constituent Assembly.  As Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, he played a key role in the development of the State.  When he became the Union Home Minister, he proved once again his administrative acumen.

The statue, sculpted by Ram Sutar, was unveiled by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri P.V Narasimha Rao on 1 June 1995.

The statue was donated by the Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Memorial Society.
