SURENDRA NATH BANERJEE

A great orator, writer, educationist, journalist and national leader, Surendra Nath Banerjee was one of the founder members of the Indian National Congress.  He was a member of the Indian Legislative Council and was twice elected President of the Indian National Congress.  A social and religious reformer, Banerjee advocated widow remarriage and raising the marriageable age of girls.

The portrait, painted by Atul Bose, was unveiled by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 12 September 1958.

The portrait was donated by Dr. B.C. Roy on behalf of the people of India.
