DR. SYAMA PRASAD MOOKERJEE

A great patriot and educationist, distinguished parliamentarian and administrator, renowned statesman and humanitarian, and a campaigner for national unity and integrity, Syama Prasad Mookerjee was one of the founding fathers of Independent India.  Beginning as an educationist, he rose to be the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University at the age of 34.  He was a member of the Constituent Assembly As Union Minister of Industries and Supply (1947-50), he was responsible for formulating the industrial policy of the country during the early years of Independence.  He was a President of the Hindu Maha Sabha and a founder of the Jan Sangh.

The portrait, painted by N.S. Subhakrishna, was unveiled by the then President of India, Shri R. Venkataraman on 31 May 1991.

The portrait was donated by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
